This wedding was held in the backyard of one of those beautiful homes in West Hartford. It was suppose to be in Elizabeth Park but things didn’t go right so it was changed. I always feel the things that you think are going wrong on your day, either weren’t meant to be or a blessing in disguise. The park was packed, but in the backyard it was romantic, and intimate for the Bride & Groom and their families. The food was catered from Taste of India, which is my favorite India restaurant in CT. I usually am so busy photographing every moment I rarely sit down to eat. I made sure I found a moment to eat at this wedding. It was fantastic.
When making a decision to hire a Professional photographer for your special occasion, consider the equipment they will be utilizing. The camera body and lenses are crucial to capturing images under all lighting conditions. It is not common to have ideal lighting the entire day. Good equipment and experience matter to ensure perfect images.
I shoot with a brand new Canon 7D and a 5D cameras. They are in excess of 12 mega pixels, and have many different functions to ensure fastness, colorization, contrast, etc…. I find these cameras are the best to capture “in the moment” images, artistic lighting, and other functions. It is frustrating to capture that special moment only to realize it’s blurry, too dark or too light to fix.
No matter what camera body a photographer uses, the lenses are the most vital piece of equipment. It is important to use high grade lenses. Ask to see the photographer’s equipment. There should be a red band (Canon) or a gold band (Nikon) on the lens. It is difficult to shoot images in low lighting such as inside a church or reception hall with a low grade lens. They may be blurry or grainy when blown up.
Consider the following before you make your choice of photographer:
What type of equipment are they utilizing?
Do they have backup equipment?
Do they understand how to use their equipment? Do they have a light meter? Can they explain the shutter speeds and F-stops to you?
What is their experience? How many weddings are they shooting each year?
Weddings are fast pace and nine out of ten times lighting conditions are not ideal.
Your photographer has to be quick on their feet, quick at the trigger, and extremely fast
at changing setting on the camera and flash. They need know how to work with the equipment to produce a perfect image.

Looking for a wonderful place to hold a small wedding, shower, or just a night out? Apricot’s in Farmington, is such a wonderful place with great food. Lauren & Micheal had a gorgeous wedding there in May. Lauren was stunning, and the kids were so cute. I couldn’t help but keep photographing them. ;o)
